03Expertise

Expertise and areas of work

Clinical practice and research across oncologic, minimally invasive and reconstructive thoracic surgery.

  1. 01Lung Cancer SurgeryLobectomy, segmentectomy and pneumonectomy with lymph node dissection for early-stage and selected locally advanced lung cancer, by open or minimally invasive approach.
  2. 02Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS)Closed thoracic surgery through small incisions using a camera and endoscopic instruments. The region’s first VATS lobectomy was performed by Prof. Çelik at OMÜ in 2013.
  3. 03Robotic Thoracic Surgery (RATS)A closed technique in which the surgeon controls robotic arms from a console, with 3D vision and high precision. The first robotic lung cancer operation in the Black Sea region was led by Prof. Çelik in 2026.
  4. 04Pulmonary NodulesDistinguishing benign from malignant incidental nodules, deciding on surveillance and, when needed, diagnostic resection by VATS.
  5. 05Mesothelioma and Hyperthermic ChemotherapyPleurectomy/decortication for asbestos-related pleural cancer and, in selected patients, hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) in the same session.
  6. 06Malignant Pleural EffusionDiagnosis and drainage of fluid caused by pleural spread of cancer, and prevention of recurrence by pleurodesis.
  7. 07PneumothoraxTreatment of spontaneous pneumothorax, common in young adults, from chest tube drainage to VATS bullectomy.
  8. 08Catamenial PneumothoraxVATS repair of diaphragmatic defects and combined hormonal management in menstruation-related recurrent pneumothorax.
